Steve Jobs Announces Hormone Imbalance Cause of Weight Loss

Being an entrepreneur, I am often intrigued with other entrepreneurs (particularly those who are mega successful and well-known). Once such entrepreneur is Steve Jobs.

As many of you probably know, Steve Jobs is the master-mind entrepreneur behind the Apple company. Apple is the company that makes all those cool ipods, computers, and iPhones.

He was diagnosed with a less aggressive form of pancreatic cancer in 2004, and did relatively well following a surgical procedure to treat it. However, after rapid weight loss during the 2008 year, people started to question Steve Job’s health.

Many said that his cancer may have returned. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadliest forms, however, he was diagnosed with a less aggressive form. Even so, people were worried.  When Steve Jobs dies, many investors fear that the Apple stock will plummet!

Steve Jobs also recently cancelled a very big Apple event, and people really started to worry about his health.

So Jobs came out with an open letter declaring that his health did get worse, and he decided to pursue medical care. The doctors, he said, were able to find out that the reason he has been losing weight is due to a “hormone” problem. He said that they discovered this after analyzing a “Sophisticated” blood test. He said he was in better health, and was expected to have gained all his weight back within the next few months (late spring).

This made some people feel a bit better, but others weren’t buying into it.

Let me just stop and say right now that even though Steve Jobs is the mastermind behind Apple, and even though the stock will most likely fall quite a bit on hearing of his death, I feel the man does deserve his privacy. People should stop bother him so bad. Investors should back off. If they don’t want to give the man privacy, sell your stock. He is a human and deserves that. Even if you lose money after his death-face it. He has to die sometime.

At the same time, I have my suspicions about his real health. Why? For a few reasons. One reason is the use of the word “Sophisticated.” That just seemed really vague. Why not say what test it was? My wife is a nurse, and there aren’t too many “sophisticated” tests out there. Hormone tests are common. But then again, maybe he didn’t want to go into details?

The second thing that makes me think he is dying is this: He is still losing weight. Granted, he said he will gain it back now. But I still have my doubts and fears until I see a healthy Jobs. Patrick Swayze (the hit actor), also is battling pancreatic cancer, and is losing weight rapidly. Steve Jobs, too, is losing rapid weight. In the medical field, this isn’t a good sign when you have cancer. I remember all too many people I have seen die of cancer with this very skinny look just weeks or months before it happened.

My neighbor died of cancer (severe alcoholic), and months before he died he began losing weight and looked almost just like Jobs. I have seen countless others who look just like Jobs just months, weeks, or days before death.

So Is Steve Jobs Lying About His Cancer? Is He Really Dying? Or Is It Really Just A Hormone Imbalance?

It is really none of my business either way, and I don’t care other than the fact that I wish the best for Mr. Jobs and his family. I know he is having a hard time right now, and I can only imagine the pain and frustration he is experiencing. It is hard enough battling cancer, losing weight, and feeling the feelings he must have right now.

Does Steve have a motive to lie? Perhaps. Maybe he thinks it is none of our business about his personal life or even death. Perhaps he wants to protect Apple’s stock (his legacy) for as long as possible? Or maybe he is just trying to be positive and optimistic. Maybe he is even a little bit in denial (which is understandable).

I know it would be really creepy and scary if everyone in the world was talking about my health and my potential death. The fact is, he isn’t dead yet, and people should respect that in the media.

What Do I think About Steve Job’s Weight loss, Hormone Imbalance, and Death?

I think he deserves peace if he is dying. People should back off. Does he have a hormone problem, yes I am sure he probably does. Is he dying right now? My guess is yes he probably still is. But that is just pure speculation due to his weight loss. I could be wrong, and I hope I am. But I have this nagging feeling that I may be right.

I pray for Jobs and his family for the tough road ahead. I hope he has beaten cancer, and can return to his reign at Apple. But at the same time, I can’t help but feel that pretty soon (or midway) through 2009 we are going to lose a great innovator and entrepreneur. God bless you Mr. Jobs, and may God be with you.

How to Repair a Dell Inspiron 1200 Power Plug for LCD Monitor Screen

My wife has a Dell Inspiron 1200 laptop/notebook computer that recently started having trouble. We use her laptop quite a bit to watch movies (Netflix and Youtube) all the time, and I also use it to make blog posts quite frequently as well.

What was the problem? The computer’s LCD monitor screen kept blinking on and off (from light to dim lighing). The problem was that the component (power plug jack) in the back of the computer was not making a good connection. At first I thought perhaps it was the AC power adapter that plugs into the wall. But after a little research online, I figured out that it must have been the power plug.

Now, I am a good with computers, but the most I have ever done to a computer was simply installing Ram (I upgraded Ram on my HP Pavilion 513x and the Dell Inspiron Laptop). So taking a laptop computer almost completely apart was a big challenge. However, I felt up to it!

Here are the Tools Needed to Repair the Laptop Power Jack Plug for the Dell Inspiron 1200:

1. Rosin-core electronics solder (to repair the jack)

2. A soldering Iron

3. A set of presicion screwdrivers (the really tiny ones)

4. About 2-4 hours time (depending on your level of experience).

So I got off and started to disassembled all the parts. I kept all the different sized screws in different cups to keep track of them (I recommend you do the same or you will have a mess). I also got online and dell has a great tutorials with pictures on their website on how to disassemble virtually all parts of the laptop until you get down to the motherboard.

So I started to remove all the parts. First the back cover. Then the hard drive. Then the CD/DVD optical drive. Then the extra Ram. Then the lcd monitor, keyboard, etc. I was actually starting to get a little nervous as I didn’t think it would take that long. I literally had to take the whole thing apart, even the processor!

So I got down to the power jack and inspected it. I felt like the jack itself was good, it just wasn’t making a good connection and the monitor kept blinking from a light setting to a darker setting. It was really annoying!

So I looked at the jack and wiggled it a bit. Aha! It wasn’t making a good connection. In fact, it didn’t look like it had been soldered very well at all.

At this point, I knew I could have taken the whole thing off, cleaned it, then re-attached it and soldered it. But I am lazy and inexperienced and I didn’t want to risk damage to the part. So I felt like instead it just needed some more solder on all the connections.

So I whipped out the old solder iron, and went to work. I am a newbie in soldering, but I found a great video on youtube on how to solder. So I carefully cleaned the tip of the solder iron, and then turned it on and let it get hot. Then I “tinned” the tip with a dab of solder and flicked it onto a piece of cardboard to rid the excess solder.

I then carefully heated each small leg of the power jack, and then added a good dab of solder. I worked on each leg and made sure it had a good layer of solder on it. One on leg, I accidentally got the green motherboard coating melted a bit, but it didn’t harm anything.

I then spent the next 30-40 minutes re-assembling the laptop. It wouldn’t have taken me so long, however, I accidentally left a small screw inside when assembling, and heard it rattle and thought, “NOOOO.” So I had to take it back apart, get the screw, and then continue putting it back together. All in all it was easier to put back together than it was to take it apart.

I plugged in the Dell Inspiron 1200, crossed my fingers, said a prayer, and hit the power button. I got a scare because at first it said, Invalid configuration. I thought to myself, “oh no I screwed it up.” But then it booted fine. It worked like a charm!

No more blinky laptop LCD screen! All it needed was a better solder connection to the motherboard. And I feel so accomplished and like I know more about computers! In fact, I now realize how easy it is to replace things such as a hard drive, etc. If anything else breaks, I will be ready to fix it! Except for the one loose key that always wants to pop up!
